The cover has red cloth with goldtone lettering. 34 chapters; b/w portrait of the author; 12 plates, each with several, small b/w photos; a world map showing the travel route on four continents. The front board and spine strip have a few, small faded spots. The spine strip has darkened a little and has a 1/2 in. place that is a little wrinkled. The text block ends have darkened and have foxing. Foxing is on the front endpaper, frontispiece, title page, some of the plates, and most of the pages that face the plates.
