Die Sklerotherapie gilt als bessere Behandlungsmethode für VMs und denaturiert das Protein der fehlgebildeten Gefäßwände und schädigt das Endothel, um den Thrombus zu bilden.Polidocanol, auch bekannt als Lauromacrogol oder Aethoxysklerol (chemischer Name: Laurylalkohol Polyoxyethylen), erzeugt eine akute Läsion des Gefäßendothels, die die "Gerinnungskaskade" auslöst. Es überwindet die Plazentaschranke und ist daher für schwangere Frauen nicht zu empfehlen.
