Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In an age of migration, in a world deeply divided through cultural differences and in the context of ongoing efforts to preserve national and regional traditions and identities, the issues of language and translation are becoming absolutely vital. At the heart of these complex, intercultural interactions are various types of agents, intermediaries and mediators, including translators, writers, artists, policy makers and publishers involved in the preservation or rejuvenation of literary and cultural repertoires, languages and identities. The major themes of this book include language and translation in the context of migration and diasporas, migrant experiences and identities, the translation from and into minority and lesser-used languages, but also, in a broader sense, the international circulation of texts, concepts and people. The volume offers a valuable resource for researchers in the field of translation studies, lecturers teaching translation at the university level and postgraduate students in translation studies. Further, it will benefit researchers in migration studies, linguistics, literary and cultural studies who are interested in learning how translation studies relates to other disciplines.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Translating for younger audiences is in need of critical investigation, as children's and teenagers' literature and media products are being increasingly globalized and glocalized, with translation playing an important role in the process. Media phenomena such as Harry Potter and animated Disney films travel across continents through hundreds of local cultures. These productions exert a homogenizing effect whilst at the same time undergoing transformation to adapt to new audiences. This book distinguishes between textual glocalization, anglophone foreignization and large-scale adaptation, illustrating them with examples of translations of animated films by Pixar/Disney and DreamWorks, locally produced versions of the Horrible Histories series, Harry Potter translations and transmedial adaptations as well as film tie-ins. The book argues that global exchanges largely depend on the creative efforts of local agents - professional translators, adapters, retellers, publishers, writers, editors - and sheds light on the initiatives of non-professional translators, including scanlators, fansubbers, hip-hop fans and harrypotterians. By examining globally distributed titles translated at the turn of the twenty-first century, the volume aims at filling a gap at the intersection of translation studies, globalization research and the study of children's literature and culture.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Young Audiences offers a comprehensive overview of translation in the context of young audiences. The handbook synthesises research on translation of children's and young adult literature, audiovisual translation, the translation of comics and picture books, empirical research methods, and translation performed by fan communities in the digital world. Adopting a forward-looking approach, it is organised around these five key themes which, taken together, propose a new way of looking at interrelated phenomena which have never been brought together before to map this emerging area of study. Featuring 35 contributions from leading and emerging scholars, the volume showcases a range of perspectives which focus on translation and cultural practices around children and young adults not only as readers, viewers, and consumers but also as prosumers and collaborative creators of content.Providing a multi-layered perspective on the study of translation and young audiences, this handbook will be a valuable resource for students and scholars in translation studies, particularly those interested in audiovisual translation, media translation, multimodal texts, and children's literature. 512 pp. Englisch.
