Hierfür werden zunächst die polytechnische Bildung der DDR bis 1960 anhand der allgemeinbildenden polytechnischen Oberschule beschrieben und die wichtigsten Punkte ausgearbeitet. Anschließend werden Kühnels Vorstellung der Arbeitsschule analysiert sowie Hohendorfs Argumente gegen, wie auch Steigers Argumente für Kühnel gegenübergestellt. Im Anschluss werden die polytechnische Bildung der DDR und Kühnels Vorstellungen der Arbeitsschule verglichen, sowie die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede beleuchtet, um am Ende ein Fazit über Kühnels möglichen Stellenwert für die polytechnische Bildung der DDR zu ziehen.
