Hierfür werden zunächst die polytechnische Bildung der DDR bis 1960 anhand der allgemeinbildenden polytechnischen Oberschule beschrieben und die wichtigsten Punkte ausgearbeitet. Anschließend werden Kühnels Vorstellung der Arbeitsschule analysiert sowie Hohendorfs Argumente gegen, wie auch Steigers Argumente für Kühnel gegenübergestellt.
