Medizinischen Klinik; 1898 habilitierte er sich für Innere Medizin, lehrte an der Universität Berlin und errichtete später eine private Poliklinik. Michaelis arbeitete vor allem über die entzündlichen Krankheiten des Herzens, insbesondere die durch Tuberkulosebazillen und Gonokokken hervorgerufenen Erkrankungen der Herzklappen.
