Thirteen original 6.25" x 9.25" spiral-bound notebooks, comprising the personal sailing journals of Mimi Dyer, documenting a remarkable six-year circumnavigation (19731979) aboard Rabbit, the yacht she shared with her husband, Dan Dyer. These handwritten journalsapproximately 750 pages in totalcapture the lived experience of a woman sailor in the 1970s, from logistical challenges and navigation notes to rich personal reflections, social encounters, and vivid scenes from harbors around the world. Mimi Dyer, a 1959 Smith College graduate and contributor to Sail Magazine, was recognized with her husband in 1979 for completing a full circumnavigation. The couple's adventures were later profiled in Cruising World Magazine (2004), where they spoke fondly of the journey that began on their honeymoon and spanned oceans. The first few volumes are written on one side of the page only, with later journals filled front and back. Some are only partially filled, while others are densely written. All are in Mimi's hand, (except for some letters written by Dan to his father) and together they form an exceptional and authentic account of 1970s cruising the world from a woman's perspectivesomething rare in personal sailing narratives of the era. The journals are accompanied by over 150 letters (including correspondence from the editor of Sail Magazine), and 100s of pages of notes, and various ephemera. Several letters document the reception of the Dyers' voyage by friends and some letters appear to have been mailed during the journey and returned to the Dyers later.
