Paperback. Zustand: New. Providing a comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to the contemporary Scottish criminal justice system, this book focuses on its key processes (from arrest to post-sentence) and institutions, as well as its history and some of the key challenges and critical issues facing Scottish criminal justice to…day.Highly attentive to procedural and institutional detail, this book is underpinned by a critical sociological perspective. The opening chapter considers Scotland in its post-devolutionary context within the UK, setting the scene for Scottish criminal justice institutions. Subsequent chapters deal in turn with different institutions and processes of Scottish criminal justice: surveillance and crime prevention, policing, prosecution and the courts, criminal fines and other financial penalties, community justice, electronic monitoring, prisons, youth justice, and parole and post-sentence reintegration and supervision. The final chapter draws on comparative and international criminology to look at Scottish criminal justice in changing international contexts and its response to new global crimes.Designed to support learning, it includes the following:Key ideas at the start of each chapter, outlining expectations and providing a very high-level summary of the most important pointsText boxes covering key issues, controversies and/or key populations in focusCritical questions to challenge students to develop their own thinking and ideas about key issues in Scottish criminal justiceShort, informal interviews with key practitioners and researchersEssential readings and key resources at the end of each chapterCriminal Justice in Scotland is a key text for students of criminology and criminal justice, particularly those with an interest in the Scottish criminal justice system. It will also be of value to students of law, social work and social policy.

The European Conference on Software Architecture (ECSA) is the premier European conference dedicated to the field of software architecture, covering all architectural features of software engineering. It is the follow-up of a successful series of European workshops on software architecture hel…d in the UK in 2004 (Springer LNCS 3047), Italy in 2005 (Springer LNCS 3527), and France in 2006 (Springer LNCS 4344). It evolved into a series of European conferences whose first edition was ECSA 2007, held in Madrid, Spain during September 2426, 2007 (Springer LNCS 4758). This years conference was held at the beautiful Coral Beach Hotel and Resort near Paphos in Cyprus. As with the previous versions of the conference, ECSA 2008 (Springer LNCS 5292) provided an international forum for researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to present innovative research and to discuss a wide range of topics in the area of software architecture. It focused on formalisms, technologies, and processes for describing, verifying, validating, transforming, building, and evolving software systems. Covered topics included architecture modelling, architecture description languages, architectural aspects, architecture analysis, transformation and synthesis, architecture evolution, quality attributes, model-driven engineering, built-in testing and architecture-based support for component-based and service-oriented systems. The conference attracted paper submissions from 29 countries (Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, - land, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the UK, USA, and Venezuela).
