In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This collection of poetry showcases diverse works from the pen of Pauline J. Davis, a writer of conviction who handled both the pen and the plough with grace and vigor. This book spans the range of her work and reflects the multi-faceted nature of the author's life in both her familiar home and the wider world. The poems in this collection reflect on a broad range of themes including nature, history, religion, personal and communal challenges, and the ever-changing landscape of society. The author's examination of these themes is often done through a personal lens that reveals her own struggles and triumphs as the reader is invited to reflect on their own. Davis also uses her platform as a poet to bring to light the trials of others and give voice to the voiceless. This book is a testament to the power of poetry to inspire, challenge, and give solace. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. The author comprehensively details the 1860 presidential election, which served as the catalyst for secessionist sentiments, particularly in the South. The author provides insight into the political climate of the time, which was characterized by secessionist threats and uncompromising stances from both the North and South. The book highlights the pivotal role of South Carolina in initiating the secession movement and the subsequent formation of the Confederate States of America. The author explores the major events leading up to the outbreak of war, including the seizure of federal property, the resignation of Southern senators, and the pivotal movement of Union troops to Fort Sumter. The text offers a valuable examination of the complex factors that contributed to the Civil War, making it an essential resource for understanding one of the most tumultuous periods in American history. Cloth. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. Brown ribbed cloth with ruling and ornamentation in blind. X, 11-192. With a frontis portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Drawing primarily from government documents and other sources, Frost sought to provide an 'unvarnished' account of the early events of the Civil War. This includes troop movements, descriptions of battles, lists of killed and wounded, as well as the politics that led up to the war. etc. Chronicled are the departures of various Northern regiments, the fighting at Fort Sumter, the burning of bridges, blockades and other action at the outset of the war. Another volume was issued that covered the events of 1862. GOOD condition. Moderate scuffing and fading to the cloth, with heavy scuffing along the extremities. This has resulted in the cloth being frayed and worn through along the edges, with a few areas of minor loss, including the tips of the spine and along the hinges. Minor soiling. A few small areas of faint staining/discoloration. First endpaper MISSING. Text block solid, with scattered minor to moderate soiling, foxing and staining. Sabin 26021.
