Contains 7 illustrated plates. This is a series of tales for young people drawn from Mukerji's experiences on a pilgrimmage to the Himalayas, including an encounter with a tiger, a cholera epidemic, a magician, and more. Mukerji won his 1928 Newbery Medal for Gay-Neck, the Story of a Pigeon. He also wrote a number other titles for children, including Kari the Elephant, and also wote for adults, including his memoirs My Brother's Face and Caste and Outcast. Hardcover. This work is his second children's book, a series of stories about jungle life in his native India. In 160 pages, with watercolor frontispiece & 6 internal black-and-white illustrations by J. E. Allen throughout text on glossy paper stock. Orig. published in July 1923, this is the Second Printing from Jan. 1924. Hardcover book has green-yellow cloth-covered boards with embossed lettering & design to front & spine. Condition is VG-/Good+: very clean, binding secure, but boards a tad warped. Deckled edge pages are a creamy white & unmarked. Modest rubbing to extremities, heaviest at corners & heel of spine. The ffep has been neatly excised.
