Toxoplasma gondii infection can cause severe sickness in host species. Acute infe…ction of toxoplasmosis in early pregnancy of women carries the peril of transmitting the infection to the fetus with serious problems. Present study was conducted to find out seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in pregnant women of the Lady Willingdon hospital Lahore. Serological testing was performed on 86 pregnant women. ELISA technique was used to determine IgG Toxoplamsa gondii antibodies. Overall 22% pregnant women showed specific Toxoplasma IgG antibodies. All samples were categorized into two major age groups. Prevalence was higher (29%) in pregnant women of older age group (29-39 years). Whereas seroprevalence was found low (18%) in other age group (18-28 years). Similarly high seroprevalence was detected in third trimester of pregnancy as compared to first and second trimester of pregnancy. Decrease in hemoglobin level of seropositive women was also observed. Some miscarriages were also recorded in seropositive cases. 76 pp. Englisch.

In the present study, we report the association of low socioeconomic status and seropositivity of Toxoplasmosis in women o…f Lahore city. ELIZA technique was used to determine the IgG antibodies. Serological test was performed on 83 women blood samples, among these 24% women showed specific toxoplasma IgG antibodies and while 76% women were seronegative. Women belong to rural areas have more prevalence (35%) than those belong to urban areas (6.25%) because of lower educational level, poor hygienic conditions and lower income status. Monthly income of professional women and their husband's were divided into three groups. prevalence was high (36%) in lower income group (Rs. 5000-12,499) in second group (Rs. 12,500-19,999) seropositivity was (21%) and in third group (Rs. 20,000-27499) seoprevalence were only (14%) in higher income group.

En el presente estudio, informamos de la asociación entre un bajo nivel socioeconómico y la seropositivid…ad de la toxoplasmosis en mujeres de la ciudad de Lahore. Se utilizó la técnica ELIZA para determinar los anticuerpos IgG. Se realizaron pruebas serológicas en muestras de sangre de 83 mujeres, de las cuales el 24 % presentó anticuerpos IgG específicos contra el toxoplasma, mientras que el 76 % fue seronegativo. Las mujeres de las zonas rurales tienen una mayor prevalencia (35 %) que las de las zonas urbanas (6,25 %) debido a su menor nivel educativo, las malas condiciones higiénicas y sus bajos ingresos. Los ingresos mensuales de las mujeres profesionales y de sus maridos se dividieron en tres grupos. La prevalencia fue alta (36 %) en el grupo de ingresos más bajos (5000-12 499 rupias), en el segundo grupo (12 500-19 999 rupias) la seropositividad fue del 21 % y en el tercer grupo (20 000-27 499 rupias) la prevalencia fue solo del 14 % en el grupo de ingresos más altos.
