Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book collects prose works that were popular entries in a turn-of-the-century writing competition. Authors from all walks of life submitted entries as diverse as Fables, letters from iconic literary characters, and essays on contemporary political issues. These pieces were often submitted anonymously or under pseudonyms, highlighting the writers' desire to be judged purely on the merit of their work rather than their name. The author provides historical and literary context for each piece, inviting the reader on a journey to experience the cultural and social milieu from which each work originated. Common themes running throughout the works include the author's thoughts on social reforms, their exploration of class tensions, and their reflections on the human condition. This book not only offers a glimpse into the literary landscape of the Edwardian era, but provides a lens through which we can observe the lasting relevance of these forgotten works to contemporary society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
