Many sections of the volumes are VERY tightly bound and remarkably appear unopened. Multiple leaves are not fully cut and joined together in these sections. The gilding appears to be completely intact. The spines are gently sun-lightened. The volumes show only light rubbing to extremities from minimal shelf wear over the past 120+ years. The boards are colorful and clean with sumptuous supple leather. The Aesthetical and Philosophical Essays Volume I has a light red mark on its fore-edge and Volume II of this work has more rubbing than the other volumes so could be considered NEAR FINE. All of the volumes' interiors are clean with bright, untoned pages with no writing or foxing or offsetting from the plates. Each volume has a decorative former owner bookplate on the front pastedown. There may be the scarce mark or sign of handling in places.
