Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Gloucester-Shire' offers a comprehensive and evocative exploration of one of England's most diverse and historically rich counties. Written by J.D. Newth, this work delves into the unique character of the region, from the rolling limestone hills of the Cotswolds to the ancient woodlands of the Forest of Dean and the fertile expanse of the Severn Valley. The narrative guides the reader through the architectural grandeur of Gloucester Cathedral, the Regency elegance of Cheltenham Spa, and the Roman foundations of Cirencester. Beyond the urban centers, Newth captures the essence of rural life, detailing the charming stone-built villages and the pastoral traditions that have shaped the local identity for centuries. The book serves as both a topographical study and a tribute to the enduring beauty of the English countryside.Rich in detail and appreciation for the local landscape, 'Gloucester-Shire' is an essential resource for those interested in British topography, local history, and the timeless appeal of the West Country. It stands as a classic travelogue that preserves the sights and atmosphere of the early 20th-century English landscape. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
