Hardcover. Zustand: New condition. New dust jacket. First Edition. San Dimas, California: NJ Croce Company, 1992. A gorgeous copy of the First Edition. Emmett Kelly Jr.'s signature in blue ink on page 3 [A Letter from Emmett], -- the signature looks real but it may be a facsimile. NEW condition in a bright and shiny NEW dust jacket. The jacket has only a tiny bit of very mild shelfwear at the extremities (like you sometimes find in any new book store). NOT price clipped ($35.00). We have only this one copy, but it is available now and ready to ship today from Henderson, Nevada. Flat, uncreased spine. NO chips, creases or fading. Square and tight. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked -- obviously never read. NO foxing. Lavishly illustrated, many in beautiful full color. Bound in the original gilt-lettered blue pebble-grain leatherette. From the publisher: "Emmett Kelly, Jr. is part of our American culture. He will always be remembered as the most popular clown ever and as the hobo who glorified a romantic period in American history. Originally, "Hoe Boys" were itinerant farm workers who traveled from farm to farm by riding the rails in search of work. Eventually, slang reduced the name to "hobos" as thousands of men continued on the road long after farm work diminished. As a clown, Emmett Kelly, Jr. continued the role of Wearie Willie, the endlessly inept hobo character developed by his father, Emmett Kelly, Sr. Willie represented the harsh days of the Depression, with his sad face and a big red nose swollen from hard luck and booze. "Willie's a guy who's lost his last friend but he, himself, always has one ray of hope left", explains Emmett Jr. Emmett uniquely expresses our greatest wishes and dreams - the dream of hope, the dream of love, the dream of laughter, the dream of kindness. Although he has continued the Wearie Willie personage, Junior added a new twist by merchandising products, which has propelled Emmett Kelly, Jr. to be one the big success stories in the collectible market." Oversize Hardcover. 9.25" wide by 14.25" tall. This large book will require SUBSTANTIAL extra postage for International shipments, but only the standard charge for priority or media mail.
