No excluían de su ministerio ninguna categoría de laicos. Predicaban, enseñaban el catecismo, proponían nuevas prácticas sacramentales y se esforzaban en ayudar a los huérfanos, prostitutas y encarcelados. Formentaban devociones originales sin importarles la tradición en que se fundaban sus elementos.
