W Cruells corrdinated the research, and without his competence and limitless devotion to the task, this publication would not have been completed. The Archaeological Expedition of the University of Liege to Syria conducted eight seasons of excavations at Tell Amarna, Syria, between 1991 and 1998. The present excavation report contains a study of a Byzantine church and its mosaics discovered in 1998, approximately 700 m south of the main tell. At the time , this finding was the first of its kind in the region. The study and publication of this discovery, along with the partial restoration of the mosaics, gave rise to an international collaborative project.The present report also contains articles which place this church and its mosaics in their geographical and historical context. Les tombes ordinaires de Chagar Bazaront parfois fourni des donnees qui netaient pas encore reconnues surdautres sites de la Jezireh syrienne et le volume constitue unecontribution majeure a la connaissance de larcheologie funeraire de laregion, voire de la Mesopotamie.Le contenu des tombes sont etudiees dans les quatre volumes suivants.This fourth report on the new excavations at Chagar Bazar, which wereresumed in 1999, contains the publication of the ordinary gravesexcavated by the teams of the Directorate General of Antiquities andMuseums of Syria and of the University of Liege until 2011.The Corpus is composed of 164 graves numbers and the detailedarchaeological description of those graves is provided in the differentchapters of the volume.Most of the data collected in the ordinary graves of Chagar Bazar werenot attested in the other sites of the Syrian Jezireh and the volume isa major contribution to the perception of the funerary customs in theregion, or indeed in all of Mesopotamia.The furnishing of the graves is studied in the four subsequent volumes.
