hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Autumn Songs With Music from "Flower Fairies of the Autumn", Cicely Mary Barker & Olive Linnell â" First Edition Publication: London and Glasgow, Blackie & Son Limited, [c. 1927] Formatting: 4to, pp. [48]. Condition Report: Very Good. The book is bound in original quarter blue cloth over grey paper boards, now housed in a protective clear sleeve. While the binding remains structurally tight and square, the external boards exhibit generalised surface scuffing and moderate edge-wear. The front board's pictorial onlay retains its vibrant colour but suffers from a chip and loss to the bottom right corner, obscuring part of the "Spindle Berry Fairy" caption. Internally, the preliminary leaves and endpapers present with scattered foxing that occasionally intrudes onto the text block margins. However, the internal pages remain largely supple, and all twelve tipped-in colour plates are entirely intact, clean, and beautifully preserved. Catalogue Note: This charming, highly sought-after first edition unites the iconic whimsical artistry of Cicely Mary Barker with the musical compositions of Olive Linnell. Though undated, the publication is widely attributed to 1927 by institutional holdings and reference catalogues. The volume pairs twelve of Barker's beloved botanical fairy illustrations, rendered as delicate, tipped-in colour plates, with Linnell's accompanying seasonal scores. Barker's Flower Fairies series has maintained an enduring appeal since its inception, celebrated for its meticulous botanical accuracy intertwined with Edwardian fairy fantasy. Copies of this specific musical collaboration in the original quarter-cloth and paper boards are increasingly scarce on the open market, particularly those that retain all twelve original tipped-in plates. Step into an autumnal wonderland where nature's magic is set to melody. Autumn Songs With Music seamlessly blends Cicely Mary Barker's beloved Flower Fairies with the enchanting piano compositions of Olive Linnell. Featuring twelve stunning, tipped-in colour plates of fairies nestled amongst autumn leaves and berries, this beautifully illustrated volume invites readers and musicians alike to celebrate the turning of the seasons through art, poetry, and song.
