Zum Autor Gilberto Owen (1904-1952) zog 1923 nach Mexiko-Stadt und wurde Teil der später als Contemporáneos bekannten Gruppe von jungen Künstlern und Intellektuellen, die in den postrevolutionären Jahren die kulturelle Erneuerung des Landes anführten. An Prosa veröffentlichte Owen auch die Erzählung La llama fría (1925) und Línea (1930) mit Libro de Ruth (1944) und Perseo vencido (1948) schuf er Lyrik von Weltrang, unter dem Einfluß von Góngora, Mallarmé, Valéry, Lewis Carroll, T. S. Eliot und Dickinson. Im Jahr 1928 trat Owen in den Auswärtigen Dienst ein und zog nach New York, wo er sich u. a. mit Lorca, Waldo Frank und Gorham Munson anfreundete. Sein unstetes Leben führte ihn nach Peru, Ecuador, Kolumbien und schließlich Philadelphia, wo Owen, einer der größten mexikanischen Dichter des 20.
