La recuperación de estas dos obras claves de la lexicografía histórica rifeña se puede enmarcar en la estela de las efemérides del cincuentenario del final del Protectorado de España en Marruecos (1956) y del centenario de la Conferencia de Algeciras (1906), pero obedece realmente a un proceso de rescate textual crítico, que po ne de manifiesto la posibilidad de divulgar y revisar el legado científico español sobre Marruecos y la desconocida impronta cultural amazige o bereber. En este sentido, esta edición obedece al dinamismo que impregna lo que se ha considerado como el «retorno» bibliográfico del Rif, y también a paliar la escasez de estudios sobre la lingüística rifeña, no sólo en el campo español, sino en el europeo, en especial, dadas sus implicaciones, en el francés. Por otro lado, no puede olvidarse que el valor científico y testimonial de los Diccionarios ha sido reconocido por algunos estudios recientes, que señalan su interés y vigencia en un mundo tan cambiante como el del norte de Marruecos.
