At present, the most important fields of growth appear to emerge in the areas of medical image processing (i. e. tomography, thermography), earth resource inventory (i. e. land usage, minerals), office automation (i. e. document storage, retrieval and reproduction) and industrial production (i. e. computer vision for mechanical ro bots). Currently, emphasis is being shifted from signal-processing re search and design-innovation activities towards cost-efficient system implementations for interactive digital image processing. For the years ahead, trends in computer engineering indicate still further advances in Large Scale Integration (LSI) and Input/Output (I/O) technologies allowing the implementation of powerful parallel and/or distributed processor architectures for real-time processing of high resolution achromatic and color images. In view of the many new developments in the field of digital image processing and recognizing the importance of discussing these developments amongst key scientists that might make use of them, ffiM Germany sponsored an international symposium on 'Advances in Digital Image Processing', held at Bad Neuenahr, Federal Republic of Germany, September 26 - 28, 1978. The interest shown in this symposium encouraged the publi cation of the papers presented in this volume of the ffiM Research Symposium Series.

In the 1980s, a database of the species of fish and cyclostomes in Switzerland was compiled. This has now been updated. The data which cover species in 20 families, were collected by sampling at 5904 watercourses and 752 stillwater sites (lakes, ponds, etc), and are presented in this publication. For each species there are sections on world-wide distribution, biology, habitat and distribution in Switzerland, and species characteristics. There are also distribution maps for each species, and tabulated data on the sampled sites. Albumblatt mit Namenszug unterhalb seines Portraits. - Bekanntheit erlangte er vor allem durch sein Mitwirken an der unblutigen Befreiung der Stadt Vichy und der Festnahme des Staatschefs Vichy-Frankreichs Pétain sowie durch seine Verhandlungen beim Washingtoner Abkommen. Von 1938 bis 1944 war Stucki Schweizer Gesandter in Paris und später in Vichy. Nach dem Fall der Dritten Republik im Mai 1940 zogen sich Stucki und ein grosser Teil der französischen Führungselite, unter ihnen auch der damalige Vizepremier Pétain, nach Vichy zurück. Von Vichy aus versorgte Stucki die Schweizer Behörden mittels eines geschmuggelten Kurzwellensenders mit Informationen. Am 19.August 1944 kam es aufgrund der Forderung von Cécil von Renthe-Fink nach der Festnahme Pétains beinahe zu einem deutschen Luft- und Artillerie-Angriff auf die Stadt Vichy, der dank eines beherzten Appells von Stucki an den deutschen Kommandanten General von Neuborn verhindert werden konnte. Pétain wurde nach Vermittlung Stuckis am 19. August kampflos festgenommen.Nach dem Zusammenbruch des Pétain-Regimes reiste Stucki ins Zentralmassiv, um mit den vorrückenden Maquis zu reden. Dank Stuckis Interventionen wurde Vichy beim Anmarsch der alliierten Streitkräfte von der Wehrmacht kampflos geräumt. Vergeltungsakte der Maquis an der «kollaborierenden» Bevölkerung blieben fast vollständig aus. 1945 wurde Stucki Chef der Abteilung für Auswärtiges des Politischen Departementes und der Kommission für schweizerisch-alliierte Verhandlungen. Im August 1945 vermittelte er die Kapitulation Japans.Im Jahr danach war er als Delegierter des Bundesrates für Spezialmissionen tätig und leitete die Kommission für die schweizerisch-alliierten Verhandlungen von Washington.1947 nahm er als Delegierter an der Havanna-Konferenz für Welthandel und Beschäftigung, 1952 an der Londoner Konferenz über die deutschen Schulden sowie über die schweizerischen Guthaben gegenüber dem ehemaligen Deutschen Reich teil.
