Maintaining a high standard of literary excellence, Harper & Brothers managed to acquire the works of many of the world's most esteemed authors for inclusion in their monthly journal. As well as fine literature, Harper's presented some of the most attractive engraved illustrations of the time. With exciting selections in literature, poetry, informative articles on history, current affairs, science and the arts, as well as astute editorial commentary, it is no wonder that "Harper's New Monthly Magazine" was as successful as it was. It is the second-oldest continually published monthly magazine in the country.
