As issued, the book was published without a dust jacket. The interior remains pristine, with crisp reproductions of Rockwell['s artwork and archival photographs, and no owner markings or handling evidence. Overall, this is an exceptionally well-preserved copy. Published in 1995 by Four Corners Publishing in association with the Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge, this volume functioned as the official museum guide and exhibition publication. Crucially, it was distributed solely through the Norman Rockwell Museum, not through commercial bookstores or trade distributors. That restricted distribution significantly limits availability on the secondary market, particularly in Fine condition, and adds collector appeal for enthusiasts of Rockwell, American illustration, museum imprints, and regional art history.

Introduction by the editors, Amis and Michie, who both contribute poems. Very Good in somewhat stained and unevenly faded wrappers. Rare. Amis and Michie got to know each other as undergraduates in Oxford and quickly established a weekly routine of meeting outside the Radcliffe Camera to dissect each other's poems: "During what cannot have been more than five or six weeks I produced about the same number of poems . . . about half my average yearly output over my poetry-writing life. James produced about as many. Nothing like it has happened to me before or since." With characteristic youthful insouciance, they then turned up at Blackwell's bookshop and asked to be made co-editors of the 1949 issue - a wish that was granted. Contributors here include Elizabeth Jennings and John Bayley (later Warton Professor of English at Oxford and husband to novelist and philosopher Iris Murdoch), who contributes three poems under the name Oliver Bayley.

Tom Arnold (1823-1900), also known as Thomas Arnold the Younger, was an English literary scholar and second son of the famous schoolmaster Thomas Arnold of Rugby. Arnold grew discontented with Victorian Britain and attempted to take up farming in New Zealand. Failing to make a success of this career, in 1850 he moved to Tasmania, having been invited to take the job of Inspector of Schools by Governor William Denison. Soon after arriving in Hobart, he fell in love with and married Julia Sorell, granddaughter of former Governor William Sorell. They had nine children (four of whom died young), among them: Ethel, who was a suffragist and child model, Mary, who became a novelist under the name Mrs Humphry Ward, Julia, who married Leonard Huxley, the son of Thomas, and gave birth to Julian and Aldous, and William Thomas the journalist. While in Tasmania, Arnold converted from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism, a move which angered his Protestant wife sufficiently to cause her to smash the windows of the chapel during his confirmation. The marriage was to be plagued by domestic strife over religious loyalty until Julia's death. At the time Tasmania would not employ Catholics in senior civil service positions, and so in 1857 the family moved back to England. Arnold took a job teaching English literature at the Catholic University in Dublin. One of his last students was James Joyce. This book is a record of his life in New Zealand and Tasmania, told through his letters. A scarce book.
