The work of an experienced Bristol merchant named John Browne, who seems to have been one of the first to realise the desirability of providing young men with a manual of information and advice when starting their commercial careers. With a detailed introduction exploring both the subject matter of the work and the little information we can find on the author himself. Loosely inserted into this copy are nine ephemeral specimens of printing by McGrath - five for the Gehenna Press, and five for the Pennyroyal Press, including three wood engravings, one signed by Barry Moser.
