I suppose I became interested in art about ten years ago when I met Charles Saatchi at the Amanpuri Hotel in Thailand. I was sitting by the swimming pool and he was sitting with the film director David Puttnam. He asked me where I lived and I told him in Chester Square. "Well, introduce me to your husband because we need clever young people like him." So we became friends, but not within the art world. Johan was his "cleaner," as he called him, he'd clean up his mess and he cleaned up the Saatchi deal between the old and new companies. I really appreciated Charles's help recently as he assisted me with my photographic shows of nudes. The last one he came to he said, "Oh, definitely, definitely commercial, stick to 1930s Paris." I had been working with Martin Maloney and doing some colour photographs, and Martin said, "Keep on with them." Charles said, "If you keep on with them you'd better go into magazines." So I went to New York and took my book round and I got a call back from Visionaire. I then telephoned Katy Barker who was the only photographic agent I knew and asked her advice. She told me that I couldn't show nudes and that I should do some fashion photographs. So I was introduced to a girl named Rushka Bergman who helped me take the correct photographs for my book. I showed them to the photographer Michel Comte, who took me to Italian Vogue. I then did one or two jobs for Franca, including the Kartell Catalogue, which many photographers did. It showed artists in their chairs. She liked the pictures and suggested I do a book on artists in their studios. I asked for a writer, and Martin suggested Gemma de Cruz, and we drew up a list together. The list in the book is quite varied: It is Young British Artists and a few of the Establishment who actually made the young artists or helped to make them. I liked the older guys because I think as a cu.

Original manuscript by the well-known Liverpudlian socialist Leonard Abbott, a follower of William Morris; published in pamphlet form in the prestigious «International Socialist Review» in July 1901 (pp. 14-20), it was met with public outcry and caused a scandal, as illustrated by Rose L. Martin in her detailed account of the circumstances in which the wedding came about in «Fabian Freeway. High Road to Socialism in the U.S.A. 1884-1966». At the turn of the 19th century, an event shook American society like a powerful earthquake. In the aftermath of the scandalous event, outburst of rage and indignation stirred the country, especially in the most conservative and traditionalist circles. The clergyman, educator, author, and Social Gospel advocate George D. Herron, a married father-of-four, left his lawfully wedded wife Mary out of love for another woman, Carrie A. Rand. The following unconventional union between Herron and Rand took place on May 25, 1901, in a New York apartment under the appellation of socialist wedding. Carrie Rand was the daughter of a lumber baron and banker and Caroline Rand, who donated profusely to Socialists and those who believed in their cause, whose inheritance would later fund and found the Rand School of Social Science in 1906. George D. Herron (1862-1925) was at one time a Christian Socialist minister, a founder of the Rand School of Social Science, a member of the Socialist Party, and the author of books and pamphlets on social and religious issues. Pastor William Franklin Lemmons greatly disapproved of the wedding, as he later wrote in his book «The Evils of Socialism». The binder Helen "Nellie" Gowen Haskell Noyes (1864-1940) was an esteemed American binder, whose lifelong work earned her the Guild of Bookworkers «Lifetime Achievement Award» in 1937. A manuscript book, bound by a great American woman binder, which deals with socialism, universal social and civil rights, as well as the feminist cause. This book symbolises the American fight against the establishment, traditional social and legal norms, and the rule of capitalism. It was the wedding gift that the inner circle of socialist, progressive and anarchist friends ("comrades") of George D. Herron and Carrie Rand Herron crafted on the occasion of their scandalous so-called "socialist wedding," which had to set the standard for the bright future of international socialism that they hoped was nigh. The couple fled the US and took refuge in Italy after their performance of a socialist wedding provoked a storm of criticism and violent personal attacks directed at them.
