Rare sale particulars for one of Lancashire's great houses. Printed paper covers chipped and fragile. Eight pages of text precede the superb folding hand-coloured lithographs 'Compiled and Drawn by Hopwood and Maxwell Surveyors, Blackburn' with a preliminary key followed by seven further folding lithographic plates, 8 in total a…nd a final leaf containing 'Conditions of Sale'. A couple of text pages have contemporary annotations in red ink giving details of buyers, suggesting this copy may have been retained by the solicitors overseeing the sale, Paul Catterall in Preston, or perhaps H C Walton who ran the auction. Salmesbury dates back to the 14th Century and attracts admirers to this day. No institutional copies of this work located.
