The author, Philippe Halsman (Latvian: Filips Halsmans, German: Philipp Halsmann; 2 May 1906 Riga, Russian Empire, now Latvia - 25 June 1979 New York City) was a great American portrait photographer with a fascinating life story, which you can find online.
