Als der Orden 1773 aufgelöst wurde, verlor er seine Stelle. - 1749 war Johann Ignaz Wagner aus Augsburg mit der Bitte an den Freiburger Senat bzw. an den Jesuitenorden angetreten, "einen kleinen Bücherverlag zum Besten des Publici sowohl als besonders der hochlöblichen Universität anzulegen". Dem wurde entsprochen, und offensichtlich hat Wagner den Betrieb von der Witwe (vidua) des Fanz Xaver Schaal übernommen, von dem Drucke zwischen 1725 und 1745 bekannt sind. Vermutlich handelt es sich hier um eines der ersten Bücher der Wagnerschen Buchhandlung.
