Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of violins, exploring the often misunderstood relationship between the instrument's construction and the elusive quality of its tone. The author challenges the prevailing notion that age and craftsmanship alone determine a violin's tonal excellence. Instead, they argue that the true source of a great violin's voice lies in the ideals and artistic vision of its maker. The narrative traces the historical evolution of violin making, highlighting the contributions of renowned masters like Stradivari and Guarneri. It examines the decline in tonal quality observed in later generations of violin makers, attributing it to a shift in focus from artistic expression to mere technical proficiency. The author sheds light on the flawed methods of violin valuation that prioritize historical significance over tonal merit, leaving aspiring musicians at a disadvantage. Through insightful analysis and practical guidance, this book empowers violinists to develop a discerning ear for tone and make informed decisions when selecting an instrument. It unravels the mysteries surrounding tonewood, varnish, and the subtle nuances of construction that contribute to a violin's unique character. By emphasizing the importance of tonal ideals, this book offers a fresh perspective on the art of violin making and its profound impact on the world of music. Ultimately, it reveals that the true value of a violin lies not in its age or provenance, but in its ability to inspire and move both player and listener alike. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
