Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the determination of solar rotation using the Doppler displacement of spectral lines at opposite limbs of the Sun. The author provides a historical overview of the development of this technique, tracing its origins to the early work of Vogel and continuing through the contributions of Young, Duner, Halm, and Adams. The book describes the apparatus and methods used to obtain accurate measurements of the solar rotation, including the coelostat telescope, spectrograph, and reflecting prisms. The author discusses the challenges encountered in obtaining high-quality data, such as atmospheric turbulence and the need for precise alignment of the instruments. The book also examines the thematic depth of the research, including the investigation of the law connecting the change of angular velocity with latitude, the variability of the rotational velocity, and the differences in rotational velocity for different elements. The author presents the results of their own measurements, which suggest that the character of the spectral lines themselves may contribute to differences in the measured displacement. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the determination of solar rotation using the Doppler displacement of spectral lines. It is a valuable resource for researchers in solar physics and astronomy, and for anyone interested in the history and development of astronomical techniques. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents findings from an investigation concerning the star image as produced by the combination of objective and correcting lenses when used in radial velocity work. The author provides a description of the equipment used at the Dominion Observatory specifically, and presents a series of experiments on the size and form of the star image produced by the telescope, in an effort to understand the effects of observed aberrations and offer suggestions for improving existing conditions. The research presented has significant implications for the field of radial velocity work, and astronomers and astrophysicists will find this book a valuable resource in optimizing their research methods.
