Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good- Dust Jacket. First Edition. In Russian. Published 1988. Abramtsevo: Artistic Circle, Painting, Graphic Art, Sculpture, Theatre, Workshops. About 320 pages. Binding is tight, sturdy, and square; boards, illustrations and text also very good+. Dust jacket has rubbing and edgewear. NOT ex-library. From the dust jacket: "Abramtsevo was an estate near Moscow, with which a number of the most important developments in Russian culture of the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries are associated. Russian artists lived and worked there, including Ilya Repin, Viktor Vasnetsov, Vasily Polenov, Mark Antokolsky, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Korovin, Mikhail Vrubel, and others. The owner of Abramtsevo was Savva Mamontov. The book is concerned with various aspects of creative activities of the Abramtsevo circle and the ideas that inspired its members. Quite a number of letters and documents published here provide for the better understanding of this particular atmosphere in which the circle developed. The book is amply illustrated with the reproductions of works created in Abramtsevo. The book is addressed to art scholars and to all those who are interested in the history of Russian art and culture." Ships same or next business day from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In den WarenkorbHard covers, no dust jacket. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. Top of spine bumped, gilt lettering of cover dulled, pages tanned at margins, but a sound copy. This is a precursor to the Red Data Books in that it enumerates 94 botanical gardens of the former USSR and for each rare and declining species it lists the gardens undertaking ex situ cultivation of that plant. Brief details are also provided of the native range of the species, its habitat and life form (annual, biennial, perennial etc.). The wild origin of each accession is tabulated, along with the year of introduction to cultivation. Plants are listed under their scientific (Latin) names in alphabetical order of family, genus and species. A useful contribution to the conservation literature, though no objective assessment of rarity or threat is given and the book lacks a bibliography. Limited edition of 5,950 copies. 304 pp. Weight: 1 Language: Russian, Latin.
