From 1923 he was heavily involved in the creation of art work advertising, especially for LNER. By the late 1930s he was described as the " biggest name in British commercial design." The signature offered here is a good example of Purvis's bold two dimensional style that he was noted for.

In the wide margin of the printed image Tom Purvis has added a humorous signed pencil sketch…of a cursing British Tommy looking on in shock. Tom Purvis studied at the Camberwell School of Art, he served with the Artists' Rifles in France during WW1. From 1923 he was heavily involved in the creation of art work advertising, especially for LNER. By the late 1930s he was described as the " biggest name in British commercial design.".
