L'une d'entre elles est en couleurs (de C. PUYO). L'ouvrage de DEMACHY et PUYO est fortement inspiré par le Pictorialisme, mouvement qui, vers les années 1890, revendiquait que la photographie fût considérée comme un art (alors qu'elle avait été jusque là plutôt considérée comme une sorte de procédé neutre, impersonnel, capable d'enregistrer la réalité, certe, mais non pas de l'interprêter).
