Raphael hat die Schrift aus dem Englischen übersetzt und seinen Hermetischen Lehrbriefen unter dem Titel ¿Sternenweistum und Alchemie¿ einverleibt, ergänzt durch die aus dem Französischen übersetzten Ausführungen zur Alchemie von Oswald Wirth. Letzteren erwähnt er auch namentlich, während er sich über seine eigentliche Quelle ¿ Randolph ¿ ausschweigt. Hier wurden Wirth's Ausführungen nur insofern übernommen, wie sie sich in das eigentliche Thema einfügen. Pascal Beverly Randolph, 1825 ¿ 1875, gehörte neben Helena Blavatsky und Eliphas Levi zu den bedeutendsten Okkultisten seiner Zeit, wie bereits von Meyrink erkannt und erwähnt. Seine literarischen Ausführungen in Magia Sexualis und Sternenweistum beeinflussten die Lehren von magischen Orden und ihm folgenden Magiern, womit sie als Schlüssel zum Ursprung der modernen Magie, mit ihren leider inzwischen allzu oft verfälschten und irre geleiteten Lehren, betrachtet werden können. Während seines Lebens war Randolph weit gereist. Seine okkulten Studien brachten ihn u.a. auch nach Ägypten und Kurdistan, wo er Zugang zu ältesten Überlieferungen und Hütern des alten Wissens fand.
