Hardback. Zustand: Very Good Plus. First Edition. 1974. First edition. vii, 107pp. and 24 figures. Vincent Cartledge Reddish (1926-2015) was a British astronomer who spent much of his career in Edinburgh, where he made significant contributions to British optical astronomy. He occupied the positions of Astronomer Royal for Scotland, Director of the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh and Regius Professor at the University of Edinburgh from 1975-80. This book is essentially the text of a course of fifteen lectures delivered to students at the Warner and Swasey Observatory in 1969. It is designed to serve as an introduction to the subject for graduate students and teachers. The treatment of the subject is intended to give an understanding of the physical conditions and processes inside stars, without requiring more knowledge of physics and mathematics than might be expected of a student after two years in a University. The book is bound in the original black and grey patterned boards with a plain black spine and gold titling on the spine. The book is in excellent condition with some shelf wear to the boards and the contents are tight and clean. The author has inscribed and signed the front free endpaper thus: "With the author's compliments, Vincent Reddish - 14 November 1974". Inscribed and Signed by Author.
