Ses parents sont des juifs aisés, ouverts, et il vit une enfance privilégiée. La Roumanie traverse de belles années, mais tout sera emporté par le flot de l histoire, la montée de l antisémitisme, le déclenchement de la seconde guerre mondiale. Les cigarettes brunes ont voilé sa voix claire. Suis-je mieux loti ? Grand, voûté, un peu chauve, la démarche nonchalante du fonctionnaire désoeuvré qui hante les chancelleries, je commence à redouter la malédiction des longues insomnies.
