Undated but 1836/37, and other information indicates published in Sweden. Crown 8vo circa 7.5 x 5 inches, pp. 88 (pages numbered 52 to 140 indicating this is a section of a book/publication) + 2 folding plates, later thin card binding with dustwrapper, contained in a 20th century purpose built case. Book condition - VG., contents clean but first few pages are dusty with some foxing, no inscriptions, binding firm, the two folding plates are tipped in at the back with one plate being black ink on white paper and the other is white ink on black paper both apparently showing a number of detailed drawings of the microscopic structure of teeth ; thin red card covering with title hand-written in ink on the front cover and with pencil insciption inside front cover, light rubbing of extremities, clean appearance front and back with a few minor marks, spine complete. Dustwrapper - G+, thin, plain white paper with no printing, a bit dusty with a few marks and creasing along bottom edge. Case - VG, envelope-type case of card covered with dark-blue buckram cloth, envelope flap with 'popper' fastener, gilt title on spine edge ("RETZIUS 1836"), light rubbing of corners and edges. Anders Retzius was professor of anatomy and a supervisor at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and studied the anatomy of teeth, the skull, the muscles and the nervous system. Rare.
