A beautiful book with all gilt edges, bound in two leathers, pebbled boards and darker corners and spine with raised bands.all decorated in gilt. some edge and corner wear but a nice looking book. Not dated but a previous owners on front end page dates at 1870. well illustrated with beautiful steel engravings. Inside hinges have split in paper but holding well and binding is solid.

As well as the Emblems sections, there are also interesting chapters on saintly patrons of the following: Arts, Trades and Professions, Countries and Cities; plus monthly Calendar pages (inc. Roman, Sarum, Scottish and Old English). Condition (external): very sound with titles and logo still striking; set against the deep green cloth background. TEG. Slight bending of corners with slight fading/rubbing. Tight binding. Condition (internal): sound overall but with mild to moderate tanning throughout; with occasional spotting - the latter being slightly more apparent on the book?s preliminary and final pages. pp. xiii, 425 - followed by several pages of saintly arms (see example images). 8vo (crown octavo).
