William Dodd (1729-1777) was an English Anglican clergyman and a man of letters. He lived extravagantly, and dabbled in forgery in an effort to clear his debts, and was caught and convicted. Despite a public campaign for a Royal pardon, in which he received the assistance of Samuel Johnson, he was hanged at Tyburn for forgery. The books are bound in old full leather bindings, 8.5 inches tall approx. The leather bindings have some general rubbing wear and marks, a noticeable bump to lower corner of rear board of volume three, minor cracking to joints, all boards well attached, internally some cockling to paper to a few pages else contents generally nice and clean.
