Cadell & Co. | Booksellers | Strand.' Trollope begins by announcing that he has 'a work nearly ready for the Press, wh. may probably be worth your attention [.] It is designed as companion to Mr Horne's work on the Scriptures, of wh. as you are the publishers, you may perhaps have no objection to engage in another, wh. is designed to comprise whatever is not supplied in that work for the use of the Theological Student, so that the two together will contain all that is necessary to be known by a Candidate for Holy Orders.' He proceeds with his description, before stating that it is his 'wish to dispose of the Copy-right, reserving of course a consideration in regard to any future Edition'. A note from the publishers at the foot of the page reads: 'NB: Conferred Septr 20 with Mr T respecting'. Above this, in pencil in another hand: 'Blomfield's [sic] Recensio Synoptica 8V.' In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. ILIAD OF HOMER CHIEFLY FROM HEYNE WITH COPIOUS ENGLISH NOTES BY WILLIAM TROLLOPE 1827 LEATHER VG. Despite ardent efforts I could not find a record of this edition of: The Iliad of Homer online. These two small leather-bound books (5 ½ x 8 ½ inches, 408 & 502 pages respectively) was published by C. and J. Rivington of London, dated 1827. The books are bound with ribbed corduroy-like cloth and calf quarter spines and corners with four raised bands and black title panels with gilt titles on the spines. The page edges and the endpapers are all marbled and handsome. These volumes, built on the version of the text by Heyne, offer extensive notes and observations aimed at the student of ancient languages. Scholars interested in this book will clearly understand what it is better than I can. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers, and particularly, the leather portions of them are elegant in style, presentation and preservation. There has been some light bumping to the corners and spine tips. There is also some light soiling to the cloth portions but nothing very significant. Inside, I found the names of two former owners in each volume, but these appear to be the only marks in the books. There are occasional and random instances of light foxing and smudges of soiling but nothing too severe or which distract from the elegance of the text. The photo of the first two pages of this set show some of this foxing, probably the worst example. All hinges are intact, and the bindings are tight, sound and square. These books are not ex-library or remainders.…
