Erstausgabe
First edition (not stated). Unpaged - approximately 348 pages (per OCLC). Hardcover: H 31cm x L 23.5cm. Padded blue cloth boards rubbed, gilt lettering on spine and front board with latter additionally decorated with vertical brown band adjacent to spine featuring Japanese Kanji characters in gilt too; slight scuffing at spine ends, some wear and frayed tearing to cloth at board edges. Light toning to front endpapers; several early leaves creased/bumped at their top fore-edge corners; a few spots of light soiling but, overall, interior pages are clean. Binding stressed at several points but still reasonably firm. A good+ copy. Brief text passages and numerous captioned b/w photographs (some color photos and illustrations too) review the USS Ranger cruise and its crew for its Western Pacific Ocean deployment from February to August 1960 with ports of call in Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. With die-cut title page, color map of the eastern and western Pacific on rear endpapers, and with a "Forward" [sic] by USS Ranger Captain Noel Gayler who, of course, later rose to Admiral, was director of the National Security Agency, and was appointed Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Command. An uncommon US Navy cruisebook as OCLC locates copies at only two member institutions: the United States Naval Academy Nimitz Library and the Naval War College. Tokyo printer's statement on rear free endpaper recto but no publication date is specified; presumably the cruisebook was issued in late 1960 or perhaps early 1961. Please note that this large book has an approximate shipping weight of 5.5 pounds (2.49 kg) and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
