In 2001 Reoutt received the AIGA Fellowship award for "personal and professional contributions to raising the standards of excellence within our design community." He passed away May 14, 2008.

Manuel Robbe, né Emmanuel Robbe le 16 décembre 1872 à Paris, où il est mort le 5 juillet 1936, est un peintre et graveur français. Robbe devient rapidement…un graveur accompli se spécialisant dans la technique de l'aquatinte. Il expose régulièrement dans les salons de la Société des artistes français ; les marchands parisiens Edmond Sagot, Georges Petit et Pierrefort éditent et diffusent ses uvres gravées. En 1895, son affiche pour la lampe à pétrole L'Éclatante est reproduite dans la revue Les Maîtres de l'affiche éditée par Jules Chéret (1895-1900)2. Une gravure intitulée Menuet d'automne, est publiée dans L'Estampe moderne (1897). En 1900, lors de l'Exposition universelle, son travail est récompensé de la médaille de bronze, pour une gravure intitulée L'été (eau-forte en couleurs de 25,5 × 40 cm). Ses dessins sont publiés dans Cocorico (1898-1900) et Le Frou-frou (1901-1902)3. Entre 1905 et 1907, la galerie Georges Petit présente ses travaux dans le cadre salon annuel de la Société de la gravure originale en couleurs. Durant sa vie d'artiste, Manuel Robbe produit beaucoup d'aquatintes, de pointes sèches, d'eaux fortes et quelques affiches publicitaires ainsi que de nombreuses uvres uniques (huiles sur toile, aquarelles ou pastels). Les uvres de Manuel Robbe sont un témoignage émouvant de la vie des femmes et des hommes de son époque. Manuel Robbe aime beaucoup voyager et a un réel attachement pour la Bretagne qu'il a dépeinte en de nombreuses occasions.

Ce sont ainsi 100 estampes qui paraissent au total, couvrant les courants artistiques majeurs de la fin du XIXème siècle: Symbolisme, Art Nouveau, Préraphaélites, Orientalistes et Belle Epoque. Chaque livraison de quatre estampes est tirée à 2000 exemplaires vendus 3,50F et 100 sur papier Japon proposés à 10F. Henri Piazza prévoit également un tirage confidentiel de très grand luxe: 50 exemplaires sur Japon à grandes marges et 50 en noir sur Chine au prix considérable de 30F. Cette estampe d'un beau format est superbement imprimée sur l'un des plus prestigieux papiers: le Chine. «Malgré toutes ses qualités, le papier de Chine, trop inconsistant, doit sa réputation, non pas à sa propre beauté, mais bien à ses affinités particulières avec l'encre d'impression. Son tissu, lisse et mou tout ensemble, est plus apte qu'aucun autre à recevoir un beau tirage. Cette propriété fait rechercher le papier de Chine pour le tirage des gravures.» (Anatole France). L'intérêt des collectionneurs français pour les affiches artistiques s'amplifie au début des années 1890. Octave Uzanne, pour qualifier cette fièvre invente le terme d'«affichomanie». L'affiche, à l'origine populaire et placardée dans les rues de la capitale, devient alors objet d'art et son support éphémère se fait précieux et voué à la conservation. Piazza décide de soustraire l'affiche à sa vocation publicitaire et de l'élever au rang d'uvre d'art à part entière au même titre que le livre illustré de luxe. Magnificent French monthly publication edited between May 1897 and April 1899, L'Estampe moderne consists of original chromolithographs which, unlike other magazines such as Les Maîtres de l'Affiche and as stipulated on the tissue guards, were created specially by each artist for the magazine. Thus 100 prints were published in total, covering the major artistic movements of the late 19th century: Symbolism, Art Nouveau, Pre-Raphaelites, Orientalists and Belle Époque. Each issue of four prints was printed in 2000 copies sold at 3.50F and 100 on Japan paper offered at 10F. Henri Piazza also planned a confidential delux.

Manuel Robbe was highly influenced by the most important French artists of th…e nineteenth century: Degas, Renoir, Legrand, Chahine and Lautrec, who were his elder contemporaries, all had major impacts on his composition. Robbe delighted in depicting women. He focused on highlighting their individuality and interests, while also celebrating their beauty. His prints chronicled the emerging status of women as decision-makers and connoisseurs, as well as their ability to judge and appreciate art. Throught this lense of respect and appreciation he was able to show their sensuality, sociability, and the ability of the modern women to elegantly enjoy the simple pleasures in life, while also assuming a status and position in the arts once only enjoyed by men.

FRAME HAS SOME DAMAGE SO I CAN ALSO SHIP WITHOUT FRAME IF REQUIRED. Manuel Robbe Biography 1872 - 1936 Manuel Robbe (1872-1936) was a brilliant printmaker who mastered the aquatint technique. He was born in Paris, shortly after the Franco-Prussian War. He soon began studies at the Lycees Condorcet with Louis Legrand. In the early 1890's Robbe enrolled at the Academie Julian and later, at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux- Arts. Here, he learned the intricacies of etching and aquatint from master etcher Eugene Delatre. He exhibited regularly at the Salons of Societe des Artistes Francais and in 1900, he received a bronze medal at the World's Fair for his contribution to printmaking. In the beginning of his career, Robbe began to incorporate many innovative etching techniques into his artwork, such as, the sugar-lift, aquatint and "à la poupee." His technique was developed over several phases. He painted his design with a mixture of sugar, India ink and gum arabic on a zinc plate. The plate was then covered entirely with a varnish. By immersing the plate in water, the sugar would melt, leaving a thin white line. Resin was added and the plate was heated from the bottom. The plate was placed into an acid bath, to bite the lines and establish line intensity. Finally, Robbe painted the plate with an oil brush made of rags called "à la poupee." Robbe would arrive with new shades of color with each impression, because he would have to paint the plate each time an impression was pulled. He always succeeded in giving his aquatints great intensity, unique color diversity and extraordinary painterly effects. Robbe was influenced by the most of the important nineteenth century artists such as Degas, Renoir, Legrand, Chahine and Lautrec. Robbe delighted in depicting women. He was known to show the individuality of his female subjects, while celebrating their beauty. His prints chronicled the emerging status of women as decision-makers and connoisseurs, as well as having the ability to judge and appreciate art. He also was able to show their sensuality, sociability, and the ability of the modern women to elegantly enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Robbe's innovative techniques, along with his sense of color harmony and his choice of subjects: stylish women, children in parks and promenades in the streets, helped lift the artistic level of color printmaking to unprecedented heights.
