Laid in two copies of correspondence between Trier University and Michael S. Sanders, an antiquarian bookseller in Irvine, California. Translation of the journal of the Prefetto of the Franciscans in Egypt describing his travels from the Convent in Cairo to Sinai and the character of the wilderness of Sinai, particularly a place called Gebel el Mokatab, or the Written Mountains. The translator hopes that the careful translation of the journal should spark a revival of the Hebrew character. Part two of the journal is concerned with the origins of Hieroglyphics and Mythology. Clayton offered to travel to the region to participate in any future efforts on part of the society, but nothing further had materialized. However, traveler and author Edward Wortley Montague [1713-1776] was inspired to make a personal journey to the site and provide his own remarks on the inscriptions.…
