Piccole abrasioni al dorso e ombrature di polvere alla copertina, peraltro ottima copia dalla paginazione fresca e compatta, probabilmente mai letta; libro non comune -- Roberto Bazlen non pubblicò nulla durante la sua vita. Eppure si può dire che sempre la sua vita ha avuto a che fare con i libri. Così l'immagine che per molti si è fissata di lui è quella di un infaticabile scopritore e suggeritore di opere, di autori. Ma basta aprire una pagina qualsiasi di questi suoi Scritti per avvertire che quell'immagine è parziale e sviante. Singolare non è tanto che apprezzasse e consigliasse quei libri (in fondo erano libri essenziali del nostro tempo, e solo in un paese di inveterata angustia culturale i suoi suggerimenti sono potuti apparire a lungo eccentrici); singolare è che una vita così viva (per lui il raggiungimento più difficile: «Un tempo si nasceva vivi e a poco a poco si moriva. Ora si nasce morti - alcuni riescono a diventare a poco a poco vivi»), che un'intelligenza così bruciante, che una limpida vocazione sciamanica sfociassero, come nella loro principale manifestazione pratica, in quell'attività del consigliare libri. Taoista (è l'unica definizione che gli si può applicare senza imbarazzo), Bazlen aveva imparato da Chuang-tzu che il sapiente lascia il minimo di tracce: quei libri di cui parlava e che consigliava erano le sue tracce. Per il resto, ciò che ha scritto è tutto una sequenza di «note senza testo»: annotazioni leggere, acuminate, narrative o aforistiche o epistolari, leggibili tutte come appunti per un'immaginaria scienza dell'autotrasformazione. Una scienza che, se esistesse, non si manifesterebbe in forma scritta; e, finché è immaginaria, si manifesta per scritto nel modo più discreto, quasi impercettibile. Book.
