Esperamos que sea acogida por los clínicos de habla hispana con el entusiasmo con que ha sido preparada.\n Los RDC son la culminación de un largo y difícil proceso iniciado en la década de los 60 en la Universidad Washington de St. Louis\n (USA) y cuya meta fue y es la obtención de unos criterios válidos y fiables que desemboquen en una mayor precisión y rigor diagnósticos. Los estudios controlados nos dirán en qué grado dicha meta es alcanzada. \nLos RDC proponen unos criterios que se mueven siempre en el terreno descriptivo, evitando entrar en etiopatogenias y, básicamente, delimitan una sintomatología fundamental, una sintomatologia asociada y unos criterios de exclusión para todas y cada una de las entidades diagnósticas recogidas. \nLa contribución que esta obra ha aportado desde su publicación original en 1975 desde el Departamento de Biometría del Instituto de Psiquiatría de Nueva York, en aras de una mayor precisión en la investigación psiquiátrica, es sencillamente enorme. Su relevancia en la elaboración del DMS-IlI ha sido, sin duda, crucial. \nLa puesta en marcha de la versión española es un feliz producto de la atmóstera que el Servicio de Psiquiatría de Mutua de Tarrasa ha pretendido tener desde sus comienzos en 1977.
