Some wear to board edges with a little foxing and damp staining at lower edge and corner; otherwise a very good copy. Signed by author on title page. Loosely inserted: clippings on new book and press notice of 1989. Illustrated by 15 pages of black and white photographic plates, including portrait frontispiece. Very good account of cross channel swimming, which remains one of the best works on the subject. Sam Rockett (1919-89) was a famous figure in Folkestone in the 1950s, assistant manager and instructor at the open air pool and training supervisor for the Daily Mail and Butlin's international Channel races, 1950-51 and 1954.
