Paperback. Zustand: As New. East Village USA revisits the sprawling, renegade art scene that flourished in the East Village during the 1980s. Many prominent artists, including Jeff Koons, Kiki Smith, Peter Halley, and Philip Taaffe began their careers in the occasionally makeshift storefront galleries that prospered for several years as low-priced alternatives to Soho's rapid gentrification. Representing traditional media such as painting, sculpture, and photography, while emphasizing the film, music, and performance art of the period, this lavishly illustrated exhibition catalogue contains works by more than 75 artists, as well as documentary photographs of people, galleries, performance spaces, and clubs. It provides a striking contribution to the resurgence of interest in a brief but little documented and even less understood period of art history. Covering the stylistic gamut from graffiti and punk expressionism to Neo-Geo and appropriation through some 200 images, East Village USA examines the key exhibition sites and events that shaped the neighborhood and includes work by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Sarah Charlesworth, Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer, Lady Pink, Tom Otterness, Kenny Scharf, Fiona Templeton, Tseng Kwong Chi, David Wojnarowicz, and many others. The catalogue accompanies an exhibition at the New Museum of Contemporary Art.…

Poster. Zustand: Near Fine. Limited Edition. Limited Edition. Poster. David Wojnarowicz (1954-1992) was born in Red Bank, New Jersey. Wojnarowicz channeled a vast accumulation of raw images, sounds, memories and lived experiences into a powerful voice that was an undeniable presence in the New York City art scene of the 1970s, 80s and early 90s. Through his several volumes of fiction, poetry, memoirs, painting, photography, installation, sculpture, film and performance, Wojnarowicz left a legacy, affirming art's vivifying power in a society he viewed as alienating and corrosive. His use of blunt semiotics and graphic illustrations exposed what he felt the mainstream repressed: poverty, abuse of power, blind nationalism, greed, homophobia and the devastation of the AIDS epidemic. Wojnarowicz died of AIDS-related complications on July 22, 1992 at the age of 37. The first "A Living Testament of the Blood Fairies" was a pioneering 1996-1997 art exhibition curated by Frank Moore, Geoffrey Hendricks, and Sur Rodney (Sur) at Artists Space in New York City. Part II followed the original A Living Testament of the Blood Fairies exhibition (held at Artists Space in 1996), which featured works by artists living with HIV/AIDS. Artists include: Andreas Senser, Rebecca Guberman, Eric Rhein, Copy Berg, Bern Boyle, Paul Thek, David Wojnarowicz, Jose Luis Cortes, Angel Borrero, Steed Taylor, Brian Buczak, Bruce Witsiepe, Robert Farber and John Eric Broaddus. Light creasing, else bright and unmarred. Black, white, and red on cardstock. 12x18".…
