EXCERPT: PREFACE - We began our inquiry into the subject of this book with a basic assumption: that in marriage (or a committed relationship) we are in a partnership, not solely at home after work hours, on holidays and weekends, but 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. What happens to one member of that partnership involves the other. In the case of job loss, when a husband is fired, his wife is fired, too. Both partners are fired! The process of getting rehired is also a partnership problem. Until now, however, assistance has only been available to that member of the partnership who actually lost the job, while the other is generally ignored.
