Protected now in an archival Mylar sleeve. 152 pages chronicling the history of the first two decades of the famous Houston golf club founded by Jack Burke Jr. and Jimmy Demaret. Illustrated with numerous black-and-white and color photos, documenting early club history, including hosting the Ryder Cup (1967) and U.S. Open (1969). Includes a Foreword by Ben Hogan. Stated First Edition in collectible condition.

A couple of minor blemishes on rear board and some darkening from the glue at the front and rear gutters. Previous owner name set in gold lettering at the bottom corner of front cover. Slipcase also in Very Good condition. 152 pages. An early history of the Club, established in Houston, Texas by Jack Burke, Jr. and Jimmy Demaret.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt fresh, with a touch of rubbing at the extremities. The contents are clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the better than very good lightly creased dustwrapper, which has a couple of small scratches to the rear panel and a lightly faded spine. A collection of nine essays providing a critical evaluation of the concept of popular culture and examining the experiences of lower social classes in the period from the Reformation to the Industrial Revolution. The early history of Champions Golf Club, founded and run by Hall of Fame golfers Jimmy Demaret and Jack Burke, Jr. Inscribed "To Ron, Best wishes, Jack Burke, Jr Jimmy Demaret" on the FFEP. There are three items laid in: a card from the person who got the book signed inscribed "Ron - thought you might like the book. I had J & J sign it. RG (?)"; a printed copy of Jimmy Demaret's obituary; and a handicap chart from Champions Golf Club dated August 25, 1976. There is chipping loss along the bottom of the front flap fold and the lower part of the rear flap fold. A very good copy with outstanding HoF signatures. Signed - Asociation.
