Paperback. viii, 139 pp. In zijn brief van 2 juli 2014 kondigde de toenmalige Minister van Veiligheid en Justitie het voornemen aan om het bestaande Wetboek van Strafvordering te moderniseren. Het huidige wetboek is in 1926 ingevoerd en heeft sindsdien veel wijzigen ondergaan. Dat is de samenhang van de strafproceswetgeving volgens de Minister niet altijd ten goede gekomen. Het doel van de modernisering is dan ook te komen tot een toekomstbestendig wetboek dat voorziet in een evenwichtig stelsel van rechtswaarborgen. Bovendien moest het wetboek voor professionals en burgers toegankelijk en in de praktijk werkbaar zijn. De wijzigingen van wetgeving dienen bij te dragen aan verbetering van de kwaliteit van de bestaande strafrechtspleging en worden in samenhang met de beleidsdoelstelling van het programma Versterking Prestaties Strafrechtsketen opgesteld. Met deze serie waarin de belangrijkste delen van de parlementaire geschiedenis zijn opgenomen wordt beoogd professionals uit de strafrechtelijke praktijk een praktisch handvat te geven. Dat wordt gedaan door per boek artikelsgewijs aan te geven welke wijzigingen de bepaling gedurende de totstandkoming heeft ondergaan en tevens de relevante passages uit de wetsgeschiedenis met betrekking tot deze bepalingen weer te geven. De parlementaire geschiedenis verschijnt in negen delen. Het eerste deel, Boek 0, betreft de Contourennota en geeft een algemene verantwoording.
