Ebd. - Siegfried von Basch (1837 - 1905) war nach dem Medizinstudium in Prag und Wien als Assistenz- bzw. Sekundararzt tätig. 1865 reiste er als ärztlicher Begleiter mit Kaiser Maximilian nach Mexiko, leitete dort das Militärspital in Puebla und wurde zum Leibarzt des Kaisers ernannt. Nach dessen Erschießung kehrte er nach Europa zurück, habilitierte sich 1869 für experimentelle Pathologie und wurde 1878 als Extraordinarius dieses Fachs an die Univ. Wien berufen. Er war Abteilungschef der Wiener Poliklinik und wirkte im Sommer als Badearzt in Marienbad. Neben zahlreichen medizinischen Abhandlungen, u.a. über die Physiologie des Kreislaufs, veröffentlichte er 1868 Erinnerungen aus Mexico, Geschichte der letzten zehn Monate des Kaiserreichs.
